The length of San Clemente Trail is about average having an average number of uphill miles which makes this hiking and backpacking trail tremendous for hard core backpackers looking for adventure. The total elevation difference for San Clemente Trail is 714 feet, and that is lower than average. Each backpacking trail in California has something unique to offer. This trek shouldn't take more than 6.5 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. Being 7 miles long it's an average  
length backpacking trail. As long as you like the wilderness you will like California. For the duration of the summer here at San Clemente Trail, high temperatures regularly get into the 70's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. During the winter this site gets highs in the 50's with temperatures at San Clemente Trail dipping down into the 40's through winter nights. Sometimes this wilderness trail gets really dry, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. San Clemente Trail has only one trailhead, so you're looking at an in and out backcountry walk. Not much rain falls here at San Clemente Trail; the wettest month of the year is typically January, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is July.

Briefly about the general area:
There's just no way somebody can get bored here at San Clemente Trail. If you come at the right time of year, Little Sur River offers some fine whitewater. Get yourself into a kayak and hit Carmel River; the trees of Big Pines are a wonderful source of shade on hot summer days.
Why not camp at Rattlesnake Campground if you're here at San Clemente Trail; some of the water nearby flows, like Black Rock Creek. While you're here at San Clemente Trail it's a fine idea to stop by Sleepy Hollow, and if you came for an overnight stay Tin House Campground is a pleasant place to camp. This place, the Santa Lucia Range, has so much outdoors enjoyable stuff. Looking for some flowing water? Try South Fork Black Rock Creek, and San Clemente Trail is a location with many visitors from Salinas.
