California hiking trails - Pigeon Roost Trail, Northern Sierra Nevada, Placer County

This hiking trail has two trailheads which means
    you have the option of backcountry hiking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. Being 2.8 miles long it's shorter than many wilderness trails. Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures before you go. This hiking trail sometimes gets
very dry, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out. You'll have got to go far from Truckee-Grass Valley to get to Pigeon Roost Trail, but it is one of many pleasant hiking trails in this vicinity. All the water falling down from the sky makes Pigeon Roost Trail a wet location; most of the rain falls during January, and the driest of the months is July. Every great outdoors trail in California is worth backpacking. The total elevation difference for this hiking trail is 763 feet,  
and that is lower than average. High temperatures at Pigeon Roost Trail through the warmest time of the year are in the 90's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 60's. Through the winter this location gets highs in the 50's, and night lows during the winter for Pigeon Roost Trail tend to be in the 30's. This is one of many wilderness hiking trails in the surrounding area. The lovely wilderness trails of the Northern Sierra Nevada are a very good way to see these highlands. You spend the whole walk in roughly the same elevation zone, so you get pretty much the same conditions along the whole wilderness trail. You should count on this hike taking about 2.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Even though this is not a very long hiking trail you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens. Here in California backpacking is a nice idea.

Briefly about the general area:
You'll in fact wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the fun stuff in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Little Grizzly Canyon is a tremendous spot to spend some time at, and camping is available at Big Tree Grove Campground.
There's whitewater on Rubicon River for all you adrenaline junkies, and a great spot to camp here at Pigeon Roost Trail is Vista Overflow Campground. Wallace Spring is a stunning spot to check out while you're at Pigeon Roost Trail, and at Pigeon Roost Trail you always meet someone from Truckee-Grass Valley.
