Even though this is not a very long wilderness hiking trail you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens. Throughout the long summer days at Monte Rio Fire Trail highs are mostly in the 60's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 40's. Through the winter highs are frequently in the 50's with winter lows in the 40's overnight here at Monte Rio Fire Trail. This is one of a very small number of hiking and backpacking trails in this area. In California you never run out of outdoors fun. There are wilderness hiking trails all over California, and one of those is Monte Rio Fire Trail in Sonoma County. The backpacking and hiking trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. Monte Rio Fire Trail has two trailheads, so backpacking it one way is an option if you can arrange for a ride back.

Briefly about the general area:
Nothing beats kicking back at Portugese Beach, and of course Dutch Bill Creek flows through this area. Now, you may believe that's a load but there's even more entertaining stuff to do here at Monte Rio Fire Trail. close to Monte Rio Fire Trail you'll stumble on a wooded vicinity called Bohemian Grove, and Freezeout Flat is a great place to stretch your legs a bit.
A good location close to Monte Rio Fire Trail is Schoolhouse Gulch; a visit to Fern Spring will fill your soul with magnificent feelings. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool things in the Coast Ranges. There's some flowing water close by, Smith Creek is a stream you can explore while here, and a fine location to camp here at Monte Rio Fire Trail is Rien's Beach. Hit the beach if you want, Gleason Beach is practically right here, and why not camp at Casini Ranch Family Campground since you're here at Monte Rio Fire Trail.
