  Backcountry backpacking in California is a perfect idea. Spending too much time indoors got you down? No problem, Mist Trail in Mariposa County, California is just the location. If you are in California during backcountry hiking season you have to go backcountry hiking. This is not a very long great outdoors hiking trail but it's always wonderful to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. Every single California great outdoors hiking trail has its own character. Mist Trail is a very short wilderness hiking trail with an average
    amount of climbing distance which makes it a glorious backcountry trail for the average person looking for a glorious adventure. You spend the whole trek in roughly the same elevation zone, so you get pretty much the same conditions along the whole great outdoors hiking trail.
The wilderness hiking trails of the Central Sierra Nevada are a brilliant way to explore these mountaintops. This region does get very dry sometimes, so make sure you check current conditions and fire restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out. You should count on this hike taking about 2.5 hours, but of course some folks walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Mist Trail is 2.8 miles long it's a shorter type trek. At Mist Trail during the warm months highs are in the 80's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. For the  
period of the winter the highs are regularly in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Mist Trail. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. There are so many backcountry trails in this region. A long tour divides Madera from Mist Trail, but It's always enjoyable to walk here. Mist Trail has a total elevation difference of 1,214 feet which is about average. There is only one trailhead, so you'll be backcountry backpacking it in and back out. There are many fine great outdoors hiking trails in California, and Mist Trail in Mariposa County is one of them. The high level of rainfall makes Mist Trail a relatively wet site; the month of January is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month of the year is July.

Briefly about the general area:
A nice place next to Mist Trail is Illilouette Gorge, and get your pulse rate up on the great whitewater of Tenaya Creek. Camping is available at North Pines Campground; do put some time aside to spend at Silver Apron if you're here at Mist Trail.
Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the Central Sierra Nevada. But wait, there's more exciting things to do in the Central Sierra Nevada. A pleasant site to camp here at Mist Trail is Upper Pines Campground, and whitewater paddling is not for everybody but if it's for you then, we recommend Yosemite Creek. It's always pleasant to have a look at Vernal Fall, and the vistas at Yosemite National Park will blow your mind.
If you want a splendid time in the great outdoors, just come on down to Mist Trail. Don't forget to take a fine little spree to Tenaya Creek, and do explore Illilouette Creek while you're here at Mist Trail.
