You spend the whole hike in roughly the same elevation zone, so you get pretty much the same conditions along the whole hiking trail. way to enjoy these mountaintops. Machesna Trail is usually a pretty dried out location; the wettest month of the year is usually January, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is July. With its 4.2 miles of walking distance it's a mid length hike.
There is only one trailhead, so in and out is the way to backcountry hike it normally. Machesna Trail has a total elevation difference of 1,390 feet, and that is about average. Backpacking trails are splendid and plentiful in California, and one of those is Machesna Trail in San
Luis Obispo County. This is one of a very small number of backcountry trails in this vicinity. You should count on this backcountry walk taking about 3.5 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. Even though this is not a very long wilderness trail
you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens.
Briefly about the general area: Put some time aside to spend at Machesna Spring since you're here at Machesna Trail. All the outdoors exciting stuff in the Santa Lucia Range will keep you
coming back again and again. Places like Machesna Potrero are nice to take a look at; if you don’t have a problem getting covered with water, you can always go whitewater paddling on Cuyama River. Camping is available at Agua Escondido Campground, and close by you find good
places like Coyote Hole. Camping at Stony Creek Campground is always a pleasant experience, and Machos Spring is a delightful local attraction.
