at an in and out hike. This backcountry hike shouldn't take more than 2 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Throughout the summer at Lightning Trail highs are mostly in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the
50's. All through the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 50's while Lightning Trail night low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 30's. Lightning Trail is on the short side having an average number of uphill miles which makes it a good backpacking and hiking trail
for the average person looking for a good adventure. Each backcountry trail in California is well worth a backcountry walk. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in site. With so many outdoors endeavors available in California you'll never get bored.
Even though this is not a very long trail it's always wonderful to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen.
Briefly about the general area: So many fun things to do here in the Coast Ranges, too magnificent to be true. Camping at Horse Mountain Campground is always a tremendous experience. Camping is available at Tolkan Campground; you can run the rapids of Mattole River.
