This hike shouldn't take more than 6.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. The total elevation difference for this hiking and backpacking trail is 3,327 feet, and that is higher than average. Sometimes this hiking trail gets really dry, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. Briefly about the general area: A short trip to East Mine Canyon Spring is always worthwhile. Lots of people from Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Goleta come to Jackson Trail, and camping at McPherson Campground is always a great experience.

Jackson Spring is a picturesque spot to check out while you're at Jackson Trail; Jackson Trail is brilliant enough to spend more than a day at, Painted Rock Campground is a brilliant local campground. A journey to Montgomery Potrero revives the spirit, and a fine place is Foresters Leap Canyon.
