California hiking trails - Highland Trail, Marin County

    within the same elevation zone the whole time, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your walk. The total elevation difference for this hiking and backpacking trail is 919 feet which is a lower than average number. Highland Trail is a quite wet place typically
with a lot of precipitation; January is when you get the most rain here; the driest of the months is July. Highland Trail is many miles long with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this a very tough wilderness trail for advanced trekkers looking for a magnificent challenge. Highland Trail is a one trailhead hiking and backpacking trail, so you're looking at an in and out backcountry walk. Trail comes with high temperatures in the 80's while overnight lows are typically in the 40's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 50's; after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Highland Trail drop into the 30's. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in site. Outdoors folks generally like this part of California. Now this backcountry hiking trail is pretty long, so make sure you bring plenty of supplies. Sometimes this backcountry hiking trail gets really dry, so don’t forget to check for any current fire restrictions before you go. Now, this is roughly a 2-day trek, so make sure you've got all your overnight gear packed.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't forget to take a wonderful little trip to Coast Creek; if you came to camp Glen Campground is a wonderful place to do that. This is a great river. Point Reyes National Seashore is a splendid national park; you should without doubt dedicate some time to Muddy Hollow if you're here at Highland Trail.
If you want to hit the beach, Wildcat Beach is in the neighborhood, and Crystal Springs is a perfect local attraction. This is such a fun river. Do pop by Bear Valley Dam while you're here at Highland Trail, and Bear Valley is beyond doubt a great site to have a look at.
Camping at Olema Ranch Campgrounds is always a delightful experience, and Millers Point is not far at all. A spree to Kelham Beach close to Highland Trail is always a brilliant idea, and do put some time aside to spend at Alamere Falls if you're here at Highland Trail. If you have a thing about the outdoors, you'll go for Highland Trail. It's a magnificent idea to stop by Alamere Creek, it's next to Highland Trail; don’t forget to have a look at Divide Meadow while you're here at Highland Trail.
