The total elevation difference for Highland Trail is 919 feet which is a lower than average number. At parts of the year this area sees very little rain, so don’t forget to check for any current fire restrictions before you go. This is a one trailhead backpacking and hiking trail, so you'll be trekking it in and back out. Highland Trail stays roughly within the same elevation zone the whole time, so you get pretty much the same conditions along the whole great outdoors hiking trail. Being 13.4 miles long; it's considered a longer hike. Now this great outdoors hiking trail is pretty long, so do pack enough food to last the whole trip.
