It's a long drive from San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos to Gomez Trail, but when you trek it you're always having a wonderful time. This backcountry walk should take you about 1.5 days, so make sure you've got all your overnight gear packed.
    This great outdoors trail sometimes gets very dry, so don’t forget to check for any current fire restrictions before you go. Summertime at Gomez Trail comes with high temperatures in the 90's while nighttime lows are frequently in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the
60's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Gomez Trail temperatures sink to the 30's. This is a long great outdoors trail, so do pack enough food to last the whole trip. This backpacking trail is a backpacking trail of tremendous length having an average number of uphill miles which makes this hiking and backpacking trail splendid for hard core backpackers looking for adventure. This great outdoors hiking trail has a total elevation difference of 4,309 feet which is a higher than average number. Hiking here in California is so much fun. Each backpacking  
trail in California has its own character. Being 11 miles long; it's considered a longer backcountry trek. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in site. The number of hiking and backpacking trails in this vicinity is not very high. Around Gomez Trail you don’t get a lot of rain; February is when you get the most rain here, and the driest month of the year is June. This is a one trailhead great outdoors hiking trail, so in and out is the way to backcountry walk it normally. The backpacking trails of the Santa Rosa Mountains are a really tremendous way to spend quality time in the outdoors. This part of California is always a delight to stop at during backcountry hiking season. Gomez Trail goes through some very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations.

Briefly about the general area:
That right there is a lot of exciting stuff already but it goes on, the Santa Rosa Mountains has it all. There are some great whitewater spots on Santa Margarita River, and some close by water includes Doane Creek. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the enjoyable things at Gomez Trail. Cedar Grove Campground is a glorious campground nearby.
Tin Can Flat is a great location to check out, and you can stay the night at Doane Valley Campground. Put some time aside to spend at Sawyer Spring if you're here at Gomez Trail, and Lion Creek is one of the streams close by that might be worth taking a look at. A journey to Chimney Flats revives the spirit; Doane Valley is undeniably a wonderful location to pop by.
