California hiking trails - Glacier Lakes Trail, Northern Sierra Nevada, Nevada County

   
  This part of California is always a diversion to check out during backcountry hiking season. Every California backpacking trail has something unique to offer. We all need to get out in the wilderness once in a while, and Glacier Lakes Trail in Nevada County, California is such an outstanding place. Now this hiking and backpacking trail is pretty long, so do pack enough food to last the whole trip. Glacier Lakes Trail has only one trailhead, so you're looking at an in and out trek. The total elevation difference for Glacier Lakes Trail is 770 feet which
    is lower than average. This walk shouldn't take more than 8 hours, but of course some people walk a bit slower and some a bit faster. For the duration of the summer months highs here at Glacier Lakes Trail get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it falls down to the 40's. The cold
days of the winter come with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Glacier Lakes Trail are in the 20's. Being 9 miles long it's an average length backpacking trail. You spend the whole trek in roughly the same elevation zone, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your trek. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. Here in the fine state of California backpacking is an outstanding idea. Trekking here in the Northern Sierra Nevada is the best way to enjoy these hills. California has plenty of fine backpacking  
trails, and one of those is Glacier Lakes Trail in Nevada County. There are so many hiking trails in this neighborhood. At parts of the year this area sees very little rain, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. The high level of precipitation makes Glacier Lakes Trail a rather wet place; most of the rain falls during January while July is usually the driest month. This backpacking trail is a normal length backpacking trail having an average number of uphill miles which makes it a good hiking trail for experienced trekkers in perfect shape. It's a lengthy tour from Truckee-Grass Valley to Glacier Lakes Trail, but when you trek it you're always having an outstanding time.

Briefly about the general area:
Granite Creek is a delightful stream that is worth stopping at, and during your visit here you'll meet some folks from Truckee-Grass Valley for sure. Pierce Meadow is a lovely location any time of year; Grouse Ridge Campground is a nice campground nearby.
Poison Canyon is next to Glacier Lakes Trail and is a great location, and get your heart pumping on the good whitewater of Fordyce Creek. But wait, there's more enjoyable things to do in the Northern Sierra Nevada. A pleasant tour to Five Lakes Basin is a fine way to spend an afternoon. Having a good time in the Northern Sierra Nevada is trouble-free. Don't forget to take a splendid little trip to South Fork Canyon Creek, and the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Damfine Spring.
Any time is a nice time at Glacier Lakes Trail if you like the outdoors. A delightful site for whitewater paddling in the vicinity of Glacier Lakes Trail is Yuba River - South Fork, and Canyon Creek Campground is a glorious local campground.
