There's not much difference in elevation along the backpacking trail, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your backcountry hike. Don’t forget to check for any current restrictions or closures  
before you go. The hiking trails of the Coast Ranges are a glorious way to explore these hills. No chance of getting bored in California if you like the fresh air. There are so many backcountry hiking trails in this vicinity. Elk Prairie Trail is a very short hiking trail with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this backcountry hiking trail splendid for the average walker looking for an enjoyable adventure. Elk Prairie Trail is situated a rather long journey from Crescent City North, but when you backcountry hike it you're always having a great time. The total elevation difference for this backpacking and hiking trail is 147 feet, and that is lower than average. This vicinity does get very dry sometimes, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire.

Briefly about the general area:
There's no way anyone can get bored here in the Coast Ranges. Stay the night at Redwood Trails; obviously Godwood Creek flows through this neighborhood. A visit to Gold Bluffs Beach in the vicinity of Elk Prairie Trail is always a pleasant idea, and there are some perfect whitewater spots on Redwood Creek.
There's so much to do here at Elk Prairie Trail that you need to camp here for a while, Klamath Glen Resort is a splendid site for that; let's not forget Boyes Creek which is a stream that you may stumble upon while here.
