This is a two-ended wilderness trail with two trailheads which means you have the option of trekking it one way if you have someone to pick you up at the other end. The total elevation difference for this wilderness trail is 386 feet which is lower than average. This walk shouldn't take more than 1 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. Sometimes this backpacking trail gets really dry, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. There's not much difference in elevation along Elk Knob Trail, so you won’t have to worry about different climate zones along your trek. This is not a very long backpacking trail but you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens. Being 1.4 miles long it's a short hiking trail.
