Coconino County. This backcountry hiking trail is a very short backcountry hiking trail having an average number of uphill miles which makes it an excellent hiking and backpacking trail for the average person looking for an excellent adventure. There's not much difference in elevation
along Lava Flow Trail which means the conditions are about the same from start to finish. And keep in mind that there could be temporary safety restrictions in location. At parts of the year this vicinity sees very little rain, so make sure you check current conditions and fire
restrictions with local forest authorities before you head out. Lava Flow Trail is not that long but you should still bring some emergency supplies just in case something happens. The number of hiking and backpacking trails in this area is not very high.
Briefly about the
general area: Greer's Pine Shadows is a nice local campground, and if you're visiting from Flagstaff, you won't be the only one. Why not camp at J and H RV Park since you're here at Lava Flow Trail, and unsurprisingly, all our national parks are good places to take a look at and Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument is no exception.
