This is a one trailhead hiking and backpacking trail, so in and out is the way to backcountry walk it normally. Escudilla National Recreation Trail has a total elevation difference of 1,618 feet which is about average. This great outdoors trail sometimes gets very dry, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make a camp fire. Being 4 miles long it's a mid length hike. Some parts of this trail are much higher up than other parts of the trail, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations. This great outdoors trail is not that long but it's always fine to bring some emergency supplies, you never know what could happen. This hike shouldn't take more than 3.5 hours, but you never know stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that.
