  Arizona has plenty of glorious backcountry hiking trails, and one of those is Bear Canyon Trail in Greenlee County. Bear Canyon Trail is 26 miles long; it's a long great outdoors trail. This vicinity does get very dry sometimes, so do check for current fire restrictions before you go if you plan to bring a stove or make
    a camp fire. Bear Canyon Trail is not very in close proximity to Safford at all, but backpacking trails like these are great. The length of this backpacking trail is on the longer side with an average amount of climbing distance which makes this backcountry trail great for hard
core backpackers looking for adventure. Backcountry backpacking here in the San Francisco Mountains is a really splendid way to spend quality time in nature. Keep in mind that this is a long great outdoors trail, so don't forget to pack enough supplies. Bear Canyon Trail is a location that is rather dehydrated regularly; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain; the driest month is May. All through the warm days of summer, highs usually are in the 80's at Bear Canyon Trail. Summer night lows dip down to the 50's. The cold days of the winter  
come with highs in the 40's with temperatures at Bear Canyon Trail dipping down into the 20's during winter nights. Bear Canyon Trail is a one trailhead trail, so you'll be backcountry backpacking it in and back out. Bear Canyon Trail has a total elevation difference of 3,533 feet which is higher than average. This great outdoors trail goes through some very different elevations, and that means that some parts of the great outdoors trail could be very different from other parts of it. Of course, this is an overnight trek, 4 days normally, so it's a good thing if your backpack is big enough to do the job. Each one of the many backcountry hiking trails of Arizona is beautiful in its own way. Please follow all local rules about fires and camping. No chance of getting bored in Arizona if you like nature. This is just one of a large number of backcountry trails in this region.

Briefly about the general area:
Stay the night at Upper Juan Miller Campground, and Horse Springs is a picturesque location to take a look at while you're at Bear Canyon Trail. A delightful spot for whitewater paddling near Bear Canyon Trail is Black River - East Fork; a spree to Pine Flat revives the soul.
Just can't get enough of the San Francisco Mountains. Nearby Hogtrail Canyon is a good site to go if you're at Bear Canyon Trail, and as expected Middle Prong Creek flows through this region. And that's not all the things to do here in the San Francisco Mountains. Honeymoon Campground is a delightful campground nearby, and Bear Spring is always fun to check out.
Get your pulse rate up on the perfect whitewater of Blue River, and Prieto Plateau is right here at Bear Canyon Trail. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy this spot. There's some flowing water nearby, Wet Prong Creek is a stream you can take a look at while you're here, and do take some time to go to Clifton Ranger District since you're here.
