supplies. Being 8 miles long it's a mid length backcountry hike. Baldy Trail is typically a pretty waterless spot; March is when you get the most rain here while June is typically the driest month. The time needed for this backcountry walk is roughly 7 hours, but you never know
stuff could go wrong and you could get stuck so be prepared for that. You'll need to go far from Payson to get to Baldy Trail, but backcountry hiking is such a cool thing to do, and this is a great place to do that. Wilderness hiking trails are good and plentiful in Arizona, and
Baldy Trail in Gila County is one of them. Baldy Trail goes through some very different elevations, so keep in mind that you may need to dress differently at different elevations.
Briefly about the general area: There's so much to do here at Baldy Trail that you need
to camp here for a while, Burnt Corral Campground is a brilliant place for that, and Dan Neal Spring is always fun to check out. You'll wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool things at Baldy Trail. Black Bear Saddle is a splendid spot to check out near Baldy Trail,
and Black Bear Spring is a pleasant local attraction. All year is a delightful time in the Mogollon Rim Mountains if you like the outdoors. Soar down the rapids of Tonto Creek in a kayak, and the views at Tonto National Monument will blow your mind. Stay the night at Apache Lake Campground, and you should absolutely dedicate some time to Big Oak Flat since you're here at Baldy Trail.
